Clues - Abbotsford, BCA special thanks to Zara for keeping me updated on the letterboxes in her area. Fishtrap Creek LetterboxLocation: Elwood Park, Abbotsford BC, Canada Starting at the north end of the parking lot by the pier, follow the concrete path going north-east. After passing three lamp posts, turn east and go past the picnic shelter over the bridge, stopping to admire the lily pads and ducks along Fishtrap Creek. Continue along the path then turn north east at the at the T junction. Continue to follow the main path around the water on your left until you come to a fairly large wooden lookout structure overlooking the water. Take the three stepping stones over the water to the other side of Fishtrap Creek. Once across the stones, take the small trail that goes west. Ten paces up the trail under the first evergreen tree on your left you will find a large rock hiding the mailbox. Careful not to crush the box when you replace it! Head back to the main trail by the lookout and continue on following the water. The trail will loop back to the parking lot. Gardener's LetterboxLocation: Gardner Park, Abbotsford BC, Canada Starting at the entrance to the parking lot, head north-west to the playground. From the playground, travel north until you reach a grey brick building. After your relief of finding the building, cross the bridge heading west behind it. Follow the main dirt trail west to the second fork. The trail will fork three ways here with the middle trail containing 3 huge tree trunks in the pathway. Go past the three large trunks in your way and check the roots of the third tree trunk. Retrace your steps to return to the parking lot. Mill Lake Letterbox (Letterbox Missing)Location: Mill Lake, Abbotsford BC, Canada (Note: Letterbox missing) Start at the Parking Lot of John Mahoney Park located at the corner of Ware Street and Farrant. Take the gravel trail starting at the north end of the parking lot and follow it to the paved loop trail that circles Mill Lake. Start your walk around Mill Lake in a counter-clockwise direction. Cross the zigzagging boardwalks over the lake and stop at Lion’s point to take in the scenery. When you reach another parking lot (the one with a pier), continue on through to the next paved walkway junction just past the parking lot. Turn right at this junction and head up the hill. At the next junction, go 256 degrees magnetic north to the base of the twin trunk cedar tree. A small hole, one foot deep into the roots of this cedar is what you are searching for (always remember to probe with a stick before reaching into any dark places). Continue south along the path to return to the Mill Lake loop trail and complete your scenic walk around the entire lake. Zara's Riddle (Letterbox Missing) |
